Johan van Hengel is a Dutch designer. Johan has a technical background in industrial design and runs his own studio since 2013. Studio Johan van Hengel works on furniture, lighting and living accessories. With a focus on function, materiality and technique, Van Hengel invents everyday shapes and objects with a subtle element of surprise.

PET Felt Technology: From Bottle to Chair

The shell of the Nook lounge chair is made from PET Felt - a sustainable and durable material manufactured from recycled plastic bottles.

PET Felt is a soft, though strong material with a great acoustic performance. It is both recycled and recyclable. The design of the Nook lounge chair allows a number of production steps to be reduced to one smart 3D pressing technique. Learn more about this innovative technology.
 
Because Nook is only made from three elements, the chair itself is also easy to disassemble and recycle.
