Bibliotheek Deventer

2018

M10P0021
The new library has opened its doors in Deventer, on the premises of the former bank building. Striking the balance between the old and the new, the library offers an inviting place to meet, read and study.

Second life to the historic building

The new open-plan layout of the library is facilitated with large glass walls and windows.  A modern oak staircase combines the functional passage and an alternative seating area.

The 12th-century monument De Proosdij was preserved within the walls of the library. Now it offers a quiet room for readers and an exhibition hall. The library adapted to the historic context of its location - the used materials and visual contact with the medieval city centre create a right balance between the old and the new.

One space, many functions

The library offers three flexible zones for various activities. On the ground floor, you can find many meeting spots and lounge corners. The basement holds a large auditorium with 80 seats, facilitated with acoustic walls. A smart lab was set up on the top floor, providing everything necessary for creative workshops.

Every area offers sufficient and comfortable seating options, chosen for each particular purpose. You can spot our LJ 1 and LJ 2 chairs throughout the reading and studying rooms, while the lounge Nooks and Daddy's chairs are placed in the hallways and common meeting areas.
