Designed by Gernot Schulz : Architektur, this temporary learning landscape at Thomas-Eßer-Berufskolleg turns part of an existing school building into a real-world testing ground. Following flood damage in 2021, the ground floor of the 1977 building is being activated as an open, flexible environment for the business and administration department. The findings from daily use will feed directly into the plans for the school's new building, expected in 2031.

Flexible furniture for changing learning formats

The spatial concept moves from a central arrival area to a communal zone with a tea kitchen and coffee bar, opening into a larger area for different learning formats. Big Modular Table System and Lite Modular Table System provide work surfaces that can be reconfigured as teaching methods change throughout the day. Lite Round Modular Table System adds informal meeting points. Fost PET Felt Acoustic Lamps hang above Big tables, bringing acoustic absorption to a space with high ceilings and hard surfaces.

Seating and side tables across the learning landscape

LJ 3 PET Felt Bar Stools and LJ 4 PET Felt Counter Stools provide elevated seating at the coffee bar and standing-height work areas. MG 2 Side Tables are placed throughout the space as compact surfaces for laptops, books or coffee. Together, the specification creates a learning environment that can shift between presentation, group work, individual focus and informal use without rearranging the room.
